Open Gate: A 9-bed home for girls ages 12-16 providing emergency shelter and/or temporary housing with comprehensive youth development activities* and supportive housing services. Due to a constant wait list for the program, planning is underway to expand Open Gate to include an 8-bed TLP (Transitional Living Program) Prep track for girls ages 16-17. In the meantime, Transitional Living services can be incorporated into the Individual Service Plan (ISP) for this target population. Graduated Independence Plans (GIP) and participation in TLP activities at our Life Works program are excellent enhancement options for such residents.
The girls are learning to grocery shop and cook meals with volunteers and our campus chefs. They are also learning to scrapbook their life stories, master Wii Fit and become Master Gardeners through our campus community garden project. Like many girls their age, they love weekend slumber parties and enjoy any outing involving skating, movies, the nail salon and beauty products!
Residents receive an array of services including, but not limited to on-site individual therapy, support groups and Life Skills workshops. Open Gate is always in need of sewing machines and supplies, paint and art supplies as well as nail and beauty products.
* Youth Development activities include Collaborative Problem Solving, mentoring, community outings, campus clubs, school sports, extracurricular activities, music lessons, Farm to Table Gardening & Cooking Classes, spiritual & faith-based opportunities; celebration of holidays and traditions; SAT and ACT study classes; driving school; social activities; annual youth awards banquet; and supervised family visitations.
**Supportive housing services also include: Individualized Service Plans, case management, meal services; dental & medical prevention & treatment services; individual & group therapy; innovative therapies (animal, music, movement, horticulture); Life Skills Education; after school tutoring, Home School GED Literacy Program; educational advocacy; and enrollment in an education, job readiness, work skills training program and/or full-time or part-time employment.
